TRAINING METHODOLOGIES

Self Awareness

The first step to becoming a good trainer is to know your trainee and the problems commonly faced. List out the lurking assumptions and high yield questions to ask yourself - What goes wrong and how to deal with it?

Q1: Why is my trainee not convinced about the training content?

Q2: Why do my trainees not complete their assignments on time?

Q3: Why are my trainees not willing to relearn?

Q4: Why don't my trainees apply the concepts that they have learnt?

Why do my trainees not complete their assignments on time?
Lurking Assumptions:
- They find it boring and unimportant.
- They feel its too much to do in too little time.
- They take the training and the trainer for granted.
- They are unclear about the instructions and afraid to clarify.

Questions you should ask yourself:
- Have I generated sufficient interest in the assignments?
- Am I overloading them with too much work and giving too little time?
- Have I given the trainees adequate instructions?
- Are the assignments challenging?

Why are my trainees unwilling to relearn?
Lurking Assumptions:
- They are uncomfortable with displacing the already established concepts
- They think what they already know is right.
- They are not convinced about the quality of the training.
- They are not open to unlearn and learn something new.

Questions you should ask yourself:
- Have I been able to convince them to unlearn what they have learnt?
- Have I convinced them about the quality of the training content?

Why don’t my trainees apply concepts they have learnt?
Lurking Assumptions:
- They are not confident.
- They don’t believe in the content and the trainer.
- They don’t have sufficient knowledge about the content to apply it.
- They don’t see the relevance of the concept in their lives.

Questions you should ask yourself:
- Have I convincingly and efficiently delivered the content?
- Have I drilled the content enough for them to be confident about it?
- Have I been able to show them the long term objectives and direct them towards it?
- Have I been able to relate it to their lives (day to day activities / jobs)

Why is my trainee not convinced about the training content?
Lurking Assumptions:
- They have pre conceived notions about the content.
- Lacks confidence in the content and the trainer.
- Unclear about the end result.

Questions you should ask yourself:
- Have I set clear objectives for the training program?
- Am I projecting confidence in the training content?
- Do I believe the content is good enough?
- Have I shown them what they stand to gain by undergoing the training?
