Successful Training

What do you think are the essential components for a successful training program?

I think its imperative for the facilitator to know the subject and have an excellent sense of humour. Humour in the classroom does wonders when you have trainees who are not too keen on sitting in the class. i.e. they have been told to attend the training program by their boss. I guess all trainers also need to be smart, and really interesting people. Anyway, its just my opinion...

Many Training programs fall flat purely because the trainees are not shown the relevance to their work environment i.e of course not counting technical training to a great degree. The success / failure of any training can be traced inevitably to module development. Therefore the responsibility of the success of any training program does not primarily lie with the facilitator but with the material delivered. Unless of course the objective of a traing program is to entertain! ;)

There are many dimensions to a successful training program. Beginning with the training need analysis, it goes on to module development, trainer preparation, relevance to participants & their participation and overall training plan. Even if one of the above components is inadequate, the success of the training is debatable. Any training program should be a confluence of all the above mentioned components.

Interaction between trainer and trainee! If you can connect to the trainees on their level, breakthrough is that much faster and more efficent...!!

One of the most essential component to a successful training program is the rapport that the trainer and the trainees share during the training program. It is based on this relationship that the trainee is willing and ready to absorb information that is imparted. It is also essential that the trainer guides them efficiently and is able to highlight the relevance of the training program.

According to me subject knowledge is very essential for a succesful training program. Also the trainer's ability to cater to his/her trainees mind set( psychographics) is very important. If the initial bridge is not built, effective communication becomes a problem.
